A fun-filled weekend.
Our visit with Ada was loads of fun! We showed her around Yuli (which took all of 10 minutes lol) and did other random and fun things like picking strawberries to put on the strawberry cake we made! I must say "Hen hao chi"
One of the fun and exciting things was when we were in E-Coffee playing Phase 10 when they started playing a bunch of oldies! The employees were also amused to see us singing and bopping along lol... but we discovered that Ada had an oldies cd which is now on my computer.... One of the songs on it is "Peggy Sue" which cracks us up since Dr. Su's wife's English name happens to be Peggy. So when Ada asked me who my Chinese teacher is I could honestly answer "Peggy Su" to which she replied "Jen de ma?" (really??) teehee
The weekend also included a dance party, a fun-filled trip to Hualien where we found an English book store that has a bigger Tesol section than Briercrest (bookstore or library) i was drooling.....
To think, i had to come to rural Taiwan to find Tesol books... lol the funny thing is the book store we went to in Taipei had a lot of learning Chinese books but not a ton of Tesol books, while this one had no books on learning Chinese. As Hope put it, "foreigners in Taipei need to learn Chinese, and foreigners in Hualien need to learn how to teach English..."
I had other things to write about but i can't recall them all at the moment...
We had some concern that our visa renewal would be denied and we'd have to take an emergency trip to Hong Kong, but it all turned out ok! Whew

ReplyDeleteI'm a stranger that somehow managed to stumble upon your Taiwan blog by pure chance.
My name's Marc, I'm a 21 year old Canadian that is bound for Taiwan sometime this summer. I will be taking part in an exchange between my university and a university somewhere in Taiwan. I will be working in a hospital for 1 month and will probably spend at least 2-4 weeks before or after the exchange to explore more of the island.
The five possible cities that I may stay in for the month long exchange are: Taipei, Tainan, Taichung, Kaoshiung, and Hualien. At the moment, I'm leaning towards either Taipei, Taichung, or Hualien. After the exchange, I will most likely travel to areas of interest. Sadly, I know practically no chinese, but hope to self-teach myself some before I arrive.
I'm really looking forward to the trip and hope you don't mind me reading your blog. It sounds like you're having a wonderful experience!
Maybe I can learn from you.

ReplyDeleteWe really enjoy reading about your adventures in Taiwan. This is an amazing way to keep the people back home (Randy and Ann) informed almost play-by-play!! I just had to write to tell you that I was listening to "Founder's Week" at Moody Bible Institute tonight and heard them read an email from a young lady in Taiwan (I knew it was from Hope as soon as they had started reading). Hope you are enjoying the teaching as much as we are! Sarah is very jealous that she is missing it, she doesn't have access to the internet at home and so can't listen in. Isn't technology amazing!!!
The strawberry shortcake looks delicious, no fresh strawberries here at this time of the year!!
